Photo Ledge

I have to admit, I love a photo, a keepsake of a memory that you can look back on and smile. The problem is these days we take so many photos on our phones we forget to bring our walls to life with our journey. I remember when I was younger I would go to my nana’s house and she always had the same photos in the same frames on the same shelf. Little did I know at the time that I had an eye for design, but I would always move the frames around to create an eye catching display. I’m sure when I left to go home she would move them back to their original spot!

As time’s moved on I think we’re more receptive to change and this week I want to encourage you to mix up your frames and create wall art by hanging a photo ledge on a wall.

Photo Ledges!

The photo ledge is the little sister of a floating shelve. It’s a slim panel that holds an array of photos that can be switched out or added to easily. It’s super easy to take down a picture if you fancy a change or you can update a frame with a new family photo. On the plus side there are less holes to drill in the walls and no more crooked picture frames.

A picture ledge won’t break the bank balance and they can add texture and interest to a wall to create a feature. Give it a try, it’s an easy way to display your story.

Photo Wall

Let the walls speak for themselves

Photo walls are on trend these days. They are simple but an effective way to add a personal touch to any space in your home.

As a designer I have helped a handful of my clients with ideas and inspirations for their feature walls. It’s seems like a daunting task as it’s not a project you can just create in one day. But look, I’m here to help you by giving you tips along the way.

First you need to choose a location, a wall that you can turn into a story. An area where you can draw in colour and reflect personality into your home.

Depending on the size of the area will depend on what you can display on your walls. Make the most of small spaces in your home. An unloved corner can be transformed into a centrepiece. Do you want to tell a story with your art? If so, you can create impact with your design by using images from one particular event. A #wedding #birthday or #lifeevent like fun images of your children.

Tip: Try to stick to the same colour theme. If you are looking to introduce more of a neutral tone then stick to black & white artwork. This will create a stylish yet timeless feel to a wall. If you are looking to add colour to your walls then be bold and choose prints that feature block colour. This will instantly brighten a room and draw attention to your design.

@greyhousecreative we design personalised prints that are perfect for a gallery wall. The frame and mount is very important to us too. We sell artwork in contemporary black or white frames and all of our prints come with a surround mount. Do have a look at our website for design inspiration. Whether you are looking to create a gallery in your living room or a feature wall in your baby’s nursery we can help you every step of the way.

Living Room Dreams

Living Room Dreams

As I sit here, writing my first blog for @greyhousecreative, I am looking around at my living room thinking ‘you need a jolly good make over’! The walls are a bit tatty and we could definitely do with a pair of new curtains. But let’s take a reality check! Christmas is on the way so my new living room will just have to wait until next year.

Unfortunately, my bank balance won’t currently stretch to having my lounge re-designed by my favourite artist #kellyhoppen ! But, I know there is still so much I can do to freshen up the space and give it a new feel for Autumn.

You see I am really passionate about design. I believe real creativity is something that chooses you and can’t just be taught. Having worked in the fashion industry I have been exposed to all sorts of design. Whether it is the architecture I see in London during my commute to work or the lady that gets on my train everyday with the sharp Vidal Sassoon bob. Or, I hate to admit it, my secret passion is looking at people’s ceiling coving in their homes. I just love design and that’s why we decided to set up our new business Grey House Creative.

@greyhousecreative we sell personalised artwork for the home. Whether it’s a stylish black and white print for the living room or fun designs for your children’s bedroom. We cater for all ages and it’s a great way to introduce style and colour to a dull room or add pastel/neutral wall art to a bright room that can help tone down the space.

Anyway, back to having an autumn spring-clean… My thought of the day is give yourself a little task over the weekend and look at all the photos you display in your home. Pick up the frames, move them around and mix up the shapes and sizes. This small job will freshen up a room and will introduce new character to your walls. It’s just a small task but it will brighten up your space.

Keep posted for my next blog over the weekend where I will talk about introducing a photo wall to your home – “Let the walls speak for themselves”.
